ART FIRST FORUM - September, 2010 |
September, 2010 • Featuring Leah Comerford & Ed King
Opening Reception • Friday, September 3, 6-9pm
The show's title is "Dirt, Wind & Sunshine". For Ed King and Leah Comerford, the focus is on living things. The bulk of King's down-to-earth art, with oils and acrylics, is devoted to barnyard and pasture animals.
Comerford creates fanciful illustrations with pyrography (woodburning) on watercolor paper and gourds, and is concerned with the relationships between creatures and humans.
A deep love and respect for animals is at the core of both artists' work.
Show Runs August 31 - September 27, 2010
Also on display will be works in various mediums by all 34 of our members.

'Wood and Paint" at Studio A in September
An exciting new show, "Wood and Paint," at Studio A features the work of Phil Hall, woodturner, and his wife, Barbara Taylor Hall, painter. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, September 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the gallery located upstairs at 1011 Princess Anne Street.
While their materials are different, both would describe their approaches as experimental. They are always attempting to grow and expand their horizons. For Barbara, this is often trying a new technique or material. Phil works with many different kinds of wood, each having unique characteristics that determine his approach. All of their creations are truly one-of-a-kind.
"Wood and Paint" will be featured during the month of September. Studio A is open MWF from 10-4, or by appointment.

Good Things Come in Small Packages: "Charms from Mother Earth"
Two members from Art First Gallery, Linda Warshaw and Leah Comerford, have pooled their talents to create a book entitled "Charms from Mother Earth". Small in size but big in thought, "Charms" is about friendship and how people and creatures relate to each other in their world. Each short poem is matched with an illustration and is a story unit, open for thought and contemplation. Autographed copies will be available at Art First, beginning September 1, as well as note cards with poems and illustrations from the book. "Charms from Mother Earth" is also available on Amazon.com.
