Joel Simpson
Artist Statement:
I currently live in the Fredericksburg, VA area.
I grew up in a military family. My father was a U.S. Army Master Aviator and a veteran of the Second World War and the Korean War. So naturally I inherited a penchant for all things military especially military aircraft.
I Spent 17 years as a history teacher both in high school and in junior college and worked as a school auditor. Now, I am an instructor at NSF Dahlgren.
The teacher side of me enjoys the art of ‘story-telling’; attempting to bring the people, their deeds, the events, and their passions to life. When I paint, I try to bring with me, in some small measure, that same level of devotion to telling the story endeavoring to breathe life into the subject on the canvass.
As I have duly given credit to my father for giving me the love for aviation, I must give my mother her equal due for the gifts she gave me for storytelling and for the love of history.
They are the spring from which this God-given talent flows.
